List of Jewish Festivals
Jewish Festival of Tu B'ShvatThe Tu B'Shvat is considered a minor holiday among the Jewish people. It typically occurs in January or February each year and it is called the New Year of Trees, which many Jews during this time plant a tree. Moreover, other customs include eating dried fruit, such as figs, raisins, and dates. Nuts are also consumed, especially almonds. In addition, other customs on this holiday include seven different foods including barley, grapes, wheat, olives, honey, and pomegranates. Many children living in Israel plant trees or they raise money to send to Israel to plant new trees, but new trees can be planted anywhere. Therefore the entire day is set aside to eating various fruits that are mentioned in the Torah and learning the lessens from the Torah, which is often read during this holiday. Many Jewish families over the years have involved their children so much in this holiday that many celebrate it as a child's holiday to the planting of new trees. While not a major holiday in the Jewish year, it is still a very important holiday with many traditions and symbolisms that are still adhered to.
