Jewish Festival of Purim

The festival of Purim is represented of the freedom of the Jews that lived in ancient Persia. The Empire, Haman was preparing a day to execute the Jews living in his empire by throwing purim, which in essence was determining when the day the execution would take place. However, Esther caught wind of the intended killings and informed her husband, the King of Persia, together they risked their lives and plotted a plan for the escape of the Jews.

Purim is celebrated typically in March. The Day of Esther is one day before Purim, which the Jews celebrate first by fasting. On the day of Purim, the Book of Esther from the Bible is read in the morning of the holiday, those that are listeners are encouraged to make shaking sounds of rattles or boo when the name of Haman is mentioned during the reading.

The Purim festival ends in the evening with a dinner that is called Seudat Purim and it is a meal of celebration where many Jews engage in quite a bit of wine drinking that may gone on through much of the night. Purim is not a major Jewish festival but it is a day of celebration and rejoicing for the freedom that Esther and Mordechai brought to the ancient Jews.
